Worldwide Shipment Volume of Autostereoscopic 3D Game Devices to Reach 39.1 Million Units in 2016, with a CAGR of 61.0% between 2011 and 2016: MIC
September 27, 2013

Fueled by Hollywood 3D movies, demand for 3D TVs with glasses has been unleashed. Moreover, glasses-free 3D display devices, a.k.a. autostereoscopic products, have been under intensive development. Vendors in the field have given top priority to related projects, aiming to develop autostereoscopic devices with better 3D effects.

By surveying international exhibitions and market channels, Senior Analyst David Chen at MIC (Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute), an ICT industry research institute based in Taipei, has observed various autostereoscopic 3D devices suitable for smartphones, game consoles, tablets, notebook PCs, monitors, and TVs. Among them, 3D game devices are particularly endorsed by consumers, largely due to the numerous games available and well-performed parallax barrier 3D display devices.

According to David Chen, shipment volume of autostereoscopic 3D game devices rose 273.9% year on year to 13.5 million units in 2012 from 3.6 million units in 2011. "Autostereoscopic 3D game device shipments will surge to 39.1 million units in 2016, posting a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 61.0% between 2011 and 2016", said David Chen.
